ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the specific areas of the EYFS curriculum: literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive art and design. It explores methods of support, strategic planning, and scaffolded learning to encourage EAL students to engage with the specific areas of the curriculum. Within the early years, there's no single way to plan for the children. Practitioners can plan using: thematic approach, long-term planning, medium-term planning, weekly planning, and in-the-moment planning. All languages consist of four key elements, and these are reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Literacy skills are not only crucial in order for children to develop reading and writing skills, but also to assist children in developing the power of response. Literacy acts as a literal trigger for language use. Immersion is the idea that for a child to gain the ability to read, then that child must be surrounded by printed language throughout the day.
