ABSTRACT
Art and culture are central to the understanding of how we function and live in this world. How we understand art and culture can be related to many different factors such as our own cultural heritage, our age, our physical location, our education, our gender and so on. As culture has many definitions and interpretations, so does art. Arts practice is not one thing but many. Australia is a country of many cultures with many arts practices. A central issue is the acknowledgement and importance of the culture and art practices of our First Nations People. Australia is also a land of immigrants, thus a discussion around the impact of different cultures on the Australian mindset is central. This connects with understandings of multiculturalism and the various cultural identities that Australians inhabit which then influence their arts practices.
