ABSTRACT
This chapter will consider the history of the Australian Federal Government’s engagement with arts and culture. This will take a historical perspective initially and then consider more recent engagement. There will then be an examination of the operations of the various Federal Arts and Cultural agencies, exploring their role and history. These agencies include the Australia Council, Creative Partnerships Australia, Screen Australia, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, The Special Broadcasting Service and the National Indigenous Television Service.
