ABSTRACT

This chapter will address the creation by the Federal Government of National Cultural Institutions. It will reference government documents, public statements by politicians, historical and academic references and media references, to describe the development of national cultural institutions by the Federal Government, as well as other cultural engagements it has supported. The Federal Government is obliged to take an overview, or national perspective, thus the provision of national cultural facilities has evolved over a long period, taking different forms in the process.
