ABSTRACT

This final chapter presents a brief summary of what has been discussed so far, drawing on the willupattu metaphor introduced in the introduction. The restrictive nature of a development agenda should act as both a cautionary tale and a question as to the fundamental purpose of community radio. What is clear from this research however is that, for community radio stations working within a development agenda, audience members most appreciate programming and activities that are deeply embedded within the contextual environment of the community and are based on listening to their needs and interests. This concluding chapter also discusses the broader applications of this research and makes some recommendations for future avenues of investigation.
