ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the range of material resources that a project brings to the coalition. The Southwark Community Project was in ownership of the resources that were used by local groups and, therefore, obtained a large measure of influence in the coalition. The Project secretary gave each group a key to the building so that they could have access at all times. Access by the users to a project premises provides a useful and instructive model to other agencies, and also makes sense of any claim that general files and materials in a project are open for users to read and use; people need privacy to read material that others have written. With access to the Southwark Community Project premises in the evenings and on weekends the building became part of the neighbourhood’s internal-support resources.
