ABSTRACT

John Mackey, head of Whole Foods Market, once said employees are the most important part of their ecosystem. Leadership, peer companies, and the array of resources flowing into the company are all relevant to both climate strategy and climate performance. Application of those lenses to develop and prioritize projects is inherently a stakeholder-driven process, without biasing the results toward any specific project types. The synergy of climate is that it has direct impacts on water use, is a significant part of the stress on biodiversity, and as we saw, the natural solutions that are critical for climate success also have benefits of habitat preservation and enhancement. In supporting a health insurance company, our team was responsible for managing an array of energy, water, waste, and procurement projects, making decisions on which projects to advance and in what sequence.
