ABSTRACT

Mr Lloyd George then stated that he had received a number of questions containing the following—‘Are you in favour of payment of Members of Parliament; of paying returning officers’ fees out of Imperial taxes; of a Bill for the settling of trade union disputes; of amending the Compensation Act; of the taxation of ground rents; and old-age pensions?’ Leaving out the last for the moment, he would say that he was absolutely in favour of all the others. With regard to the Trade Disputes Bill, he would just say that it was well known that the Government was prepared to introduce a Bill dealing with the question at the first opportunity, because they thought that the protection of trades unions was the best thing for capital as well as for labour.
