ABSTRACT

Training is a crucial step in the implementation process, and to be most effective, it must be delivered in an environment that supports growth and learning, and where users understand the role they play in achieving the EMR vision. The best case scenario is to have an executive sponsor of the EMR project present this section of the training. It is truly amazing to witness the dedication of some leaders as they dart from medical center to medical center to be present for a rolling schedule of training sessions across an organization. The Connect-the-Dots Approach is a means to strengthen the relationship between training and operations by creating a partnership. When everyone agrees that training is the logical place to connect the new system with day-to-day clinical and business practice, curriculums are developed that are meaningful to users in their respective roles, scope of practice, priorities, and specialty or department.
