ABSTRACT

The vision is the picture of the desired future state. It is the rallying point for an EMR implementation—the reason for embarking on the journey. The future state defines the overall target. A visioning session should be held off site to limit distractions and should be planned and led by people experienced in vision development. The process should be driven by the CEO and the senior executive team. The board must be involved as their engagement and commitment are required for a project of this magnitude. Other key participants include representatives from key stakeholder groups. Creating a vision is all about starting the transformational journey with the end in mind. Competing priorities and initiatives that are not aligned with the organizational direction confuse and overwhelm employees. Create organizational focus by eliminating or postponing other priorities/ projects to target resources and attention on the EMR implementation.
