ABSTRACT

Communication is successful when the desired behavior change occurs. Well-done, organized, systematic, targeted communication is the means by which most project stakeholders find out what they need to know about the EMR implementation and what is expected of them in the process. Communication is more than just providing information; great communication efforts build in feedback loops to enable two-way communication in which dialog and face-to-face interactions are particularly important. Feedback is a valuable asset that helps keep the project team and sponsors in touch with stakeholder communities, gives early warning of potential issues, and is a way of surfacing resistance. Good communication dispels rumors, builds confidence, and helps people feel part of what is going on. The purpose of a communication plan is to enable delivery of planned, consistent, targeted, timely communication to the right groups, at the right times, using the most effective medium, with built-in means for two-way communication.
