ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book covers different brown-red cocktail amongst foreign fighters in Ukraine. It introduces the conflict in Ukraine; hosts of the foreign fighters in Ukraine; and ideological background on the far-right and its attitude towards foreign fighting, especially in the light of the conflict in Ukraine. The book explores a mixed picture of the foreign fighter reality on the front lines as it had been the Ukrainian side which seemed to have made more of the expertise of some of “its” guests, whereas “separatists” were not always successful in tapping their skills. It discusses the pro-separatist mobilization of the elements of France's far-right, and the role played in the process by facilitators or trailblazers. The book also discusses the Russian volunteer mobilization for the war in general, and its far-right component in particular.
