ABSTRACT

Has the tipping point been reached? Each year warning signs appear, increasing in number and each more adverse than the last. Already lives are being lost through floods, in storms of increasing violence, loss of habitat, melting of glaciers, and extreme forest fires. The increased energy in the atmosphere changes Earth’s climate pattern. How many lives will we lose before notice is taken? The longer humans stand by, the greater the task, with reduced resources. The necessary changes are good, so why not take early action and enjoy the gains? Action taken to control COVID-19 has given us positive evidence that human behaviour can improve the climate, so let us now take all the actions necessary in order to preserve the planet for future generations. Failure to take all the right actions will hurt the poor the most. Civil unrest is a possible result, as the numbers of lives lost mounts.
