ABSTRACT
At times in October and November 1943, the Joint Chiefs of Staff seemed to dislike the thought of an Allied landing at any point to the east of Italy almost as much as the Germans; and while the British welcomed the confusion in South East Europe, the Americans regarded the British attitude with increasing alarm.
