ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to the thinking of Friedrich von Wieser and has two major sections. The first one provides an overview of his ideas and is largely centered on essays included in the volume of his collected writings. A central focus of his scholarship was labor but he was also especially concerned with the theory of marginal utility. The second section builds upon the conception of marginal utility and places it within the context of von Wieser's largest contribution to economic theory—his notion of “value.” The second section is mostly devoted to his two books on this topic: one on the origins of value and the other on what he refers to as “natural value.”
