ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the way that community justice is expected to respond to the diverse groups who have been badly treated by the traditional criminal justice system. The chapter gives priority attention to the relationship between Indigenous peoples and groups and the Australian criminal justice system. It also discusses issues of gender, health and disability and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Community justice makes claims to supporting the creation of a more just society, so the issue of the response to diverse groups is very important. The chapter includes examples of approaches from Australian states and territories.
