ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine the current regulatory framework for crowdfunding and the development of blockchain technology and how it can solve the problems of regulatory compliance and security. This chapter also explores the efforts governments can make towards the development of crowdfunding since the primary challenge for every entrepreneur or would-be entrepreneur remains that of funding their entrepreneurial endeavours. This includes support, information, advice and training. We also examine how government can invest into local businesses, social enterprises and charities through peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms and recommend the need for adequate awareness about crowdfunding and the regulation to ensure its functionality.
