ABSTRACT

This chapter acts as a conclusion to the wider book by summarising and collecting together the core philosophic and theoretical insights surfaced across the prior chapters. It opens with a short recapitulation of the positions of Dewey, Wittgenstein and Heidegger. Next, a wider summary of the other perspectives touched upon through the pathways is offered. Thereafter a map is presented, providing a visual overview of the established alignments, which may be drawn across the field, as well as to those who might be seen to demonstrate implicit alignments. From this, it is possible to issue an early general statement – i.e., a justificatory epistemological narrative – in relation to how design research involving practice might ground its special approach to knowledge production.
