ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the micro-foundations of corporate entrepreneurship. It claims that individual entrepreneurial behaviour is one of the key antecedents of corporate entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurial individuals—corporate entrepreneurs—may be located in different places within a company, on different hierarchical levels, and potentially within any department, office, team, or production site. The chapter begins by presenting the concept of entrepreneurial competencies, followed by a comparison between individual entrepreneurs and corporate entrepreneurs. Differences and challenges connected with the position of an individual within the organisation (e.g. managerial or not) are also discussed. The chapter offers a complex approach to individual-level entrepreneurship and links it to internal cooperation, as well as the organisational context that is discussed in subsequent chapters.
