ABSTRACT

The Introduction outlines the methodological concerns of connecting Heidegger’s thinking to the ecological question, and how such an inquiry can reset the parameters for addressing how we can exist within a social and political arena. The axis of Heidegger’s philosophy shifts in the direction of a “forward-looking thinking,” which cultivates the seeds of what remains unthought, and raises the question of how human beings can meet the challenge of today’s environmental crisis while paving the way for future generations to dwell on the earth. The ecological question of how we can safeguard the earth sparks a new inquiry into the political, which prioritizes the possibility of developing a socio-biotic community. An outline of the book’s five chapters is also provided.
