ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the main features of the methodology used in clinical neuropsychology. It first defines the core principles of the Interpretative Approach to neuropsychological assessment. This is followed by an outline of the typical neuropsychological assessment, usually aiming to either providing a diagnosis that can complement a medical one, defining a cognitive profile of an examinee, or designing a rehabilitative intervention. Finally, the chapter describes the different types of neuropsychological settings that can be adopted for an assessment, describing the role of the neuropsychologist and their relationship with the examinee.
