ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author reviews some of these formative experiences and explains why they were so important in fostering my therapeutic thinking and skills. He discusses a variety of experiences that he had watching therapists practise therapy, listening to them practise therapy and reading transcripts of them practising therapy. The author discovered that there is only so much that he can learn from reading books on therapy and engaging in role-plays with peers on a training course. He have always maintained that it is important for therapists to demonstrate how they work when they are running training courses and workshops. The author also discusses what he have learned from watching and listening to myself practise therapy and from reading his own transcripts of therapy sessions.
