ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the different types of research design that may be adopted within a research project, outlining the characteristics of experimental research, cross-sectional designs, time series designs, longitudinal research, case study research, grounded theory, action research, ethnography and autoethnography. The chapter then introduces the concept of sampling, and it describes some of the sampling techniques that may be used. Some of the methods that may be used within a research design are outlined, and the chapter concludes with a description of some of the ethical considerations to be made when considering your research design.
