ABSTRACT

Rapid technological innovation and changing business dynamics require a different set of human capital than the existing one. It is important to note that changing technologies also require new knowledge, skills, and abilities to deal with them. Many human capital skills and expertise, which were once considered critical, have become irrelevant now. Whereas many new human skills and expertise have emerged as important human capital for businesses and economies. Given the fact that the Industry 4.0 revolution is transmuting the way conventional businesses are done and digital technologies and the internet of thing (IoT) is becoming new normal, there is a string need to identify the relevant human capital (skills, abilities, and expertise) important to capitalize on the industry 4.0 technologies. Against this backdrop, this chapter identifies and prioritizes human capital dimensions important to benefit from the Industry 4.0 technologies. The chapter adopts a two-fold approach. In the first part, HC dimensions have been identified from the literature. In the second stage, the identified HC dimensions and sub-dimensions have been prioritized by using analytical hierarchal process (AHP). The two-stage exercise reveals 04 and 20 as the most important facets of human capital for Industry 4.0. We name all the identified HC dimensions as HC4.0.
