ABSTRACT

This chapter raises some of the most important issues applicable to specific modalities. Although all practitioners need to be concerned with ethical and legal considerations, some issues are modality specific or loom larger for particular modalities. For example, the skin-penetration provisions are especially important for acupuncturists; the Therapeutic Goods Act is particularly relevant for homoeopaths, TCM practitioners or herbalists; and the risk of neck manipulation is particularly important for chiropractors and osteopaths. This chapter highlights some significant Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Codes and Guidelines for registered practitioners. Reference to specific modality Codes and Guidelines for a registered practitioner is necessary.
