ABSTRACT

This chapter presents guiding principles based in professional learning, cultural responsiveness, equity, and gifted pedagogy for use in crafting professional learning experiences: taking a pulse, individualizing professional learning plans, establishing safe zones, training beyond surface level, engaging in courageous conversations, school–home connections, and identifying grows and glows. The chapter begins with an overview of standards and outcomes across professional learning, gifted education, and culturally responsive and equity research. Each principle is then explained, followed by a section that connects the principle to research-based best practices. A table is provided with each principle, showing alignment to the standards and outcomes discussed in the opening overview. The chapter concludes with a resources section, with general ideas provided along with specific resources arranged by guideline.
