ABSTRACT

In the second zone of the Four Zone Equity-Driven Professional Learning Plan, facilitators work to increase educators’ understanding of the characteristics of gifted youth from historically marginalized populations. Additionally, there is a focus on how structural and systemic equity has and continues to impact gifted students, particularly BIPOC students, from accessing gifted education services. This chapter describes the background of the zone, research highlights, and how it is put into play within the context of professional learning. The professional learning playbook makes up the majority of the chapter, with culturally responsive and equity-driven professional learning activities ready to be put into action with a grade-level PLC or whole-group staff meeting. The supplemental resources section provides additional information for activities, grounding for the facilitators, and reproducibles of the activities in the playbook.
