ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the initial steps to create an SPSS spreadsheet and the descriptive analysis. It includes the steps to input data or name and label the variables, for instance, adding the questions and the response labels. It also introduces how to manipulate variables in order to create additional variables, such as mean, or transform quantitative variables in categorical, for example, transforming a 7-point scale to low, middle, and high. Following that, it shows how to perform the basic descriptive analysis, such as frequency distribution. Finally, it presents cross tabulation, which is used to describe two or more variables simultaneously. All steps are illustrated with the proper SPSS screenshots and the results tables, with the respective comments.
