ABSTRACT
This chapter documents #MeToo cases in the charity and nongovernmental organization (NGO) sector, where many trailblazing leaders faced sexual abuse accusations. It provides an historical overview of how this important progressive component of civil society flourished and then declined. Although these anti-establishment informal institutions rewrote the scripts of power in China’s public life, some reinvented an entire subculture of power abuse.
