ABSTRACT

The pandemic led people to take back their streets for purposes other than transportation, something that will likely continue to some extent into the future, in part because streets themselves will change as autonomous vehicles and mobility services become more prevalent. This chapter looks at the effect of that change on the public right-of-way, examining how streets will become greener, quieter, and safer and how other uses and modes of transportation will become more common and have more space in the public right-of-way.
