ABSTRACT

Pandemics also represent a design failure on the part of governments and public-health systems to protect their populations from novel infections. This chapter looks at design thinking and how it can help us create more equitable and resilient systems, using examples from the author’s research center to illustrate how design and planning can help us envision possible futures. It also lays out the steps that communities can take to create better systems that can help us avoid disastrous pandemics in the future.
