ABSTRACT

The University at Buffalo Teacher Residency Summer Institute (TRSI) and Teacher Residency Consortium (TRC) are two unique features of the University at Buffalo Teacher Residency (UBTR) Program that aim to develop, strengthen, and uphold the concept of collaborative professionalism. In the schools in which teacher residents (TRs) work. TRSI and TRC were created to become distinct, participative communities (in the “edge”) where knowledge flows from all directions between and among the microsystems, and the energy produced by such respectful exchanges results in conditions that encourage the growth of new, culturally distinguished features of a more integrated system. Since our TRs operated at the edge of all ecosystems (i.e., Buffalo Public Schools, the community, and the university), it was crucial to begin the process of change at this juncture.

This chapter provides an overview of the TRSI and TRC purpose and program goals, schedule and structure, evaluation and application of lessons learned, and data-informed changes for Year 2 of the institute and consortium.
