ABSTRACT

It is argued that colonial impact extended to various aspects of culture. While the mainstream colonial powers that once controlled the political, economic, and cultural traditions of the colonized are believed to be European countries, the United States of America has also joined in establishing its impact. Today, many theories are created to address the imbalanced nature of power distribution and how it shapes and determines people's direction and systems. Postcolonialism functions within the oppressed people's culture. Countries that are conventionally accepted as First-World countries or the Global North, whose technological and economic transformations have conferred on them the right to impose regulations on the less powerful countries, popularly called the Third-World countries or the Global South, shape in part the direction of postcolonial cultures. Africans represent a powerful agency, accepting what they want, rejecting what they dislike, and producing alternatives.
