ABSTRACT

One hundred years after the death of Genghis Khan, another warrior in the name of Temur was born to Taraghay of the Barlas tribe in 1336, in Shakhrisabz city to the south of Samarkand, in the Chaghatai ulus. This chapter discusses how Temur rose to the position of the imperial ruler of Chaghatai ulus and how he hypothetically established linkages to the Genghis Khan dynasty. This chapter provides a detailed description of the conquests of Amir Temur from Moscow to the Mediterranean, from Delhi to Damascus, and how he destroyed the mighty Ottoman Empire. The causes of the fall of Temur’s empire, which ended after hundred years of his death, are discussed in this chapter. This chapter also provides a detailed discussion of one of Temur’s descendants, Mohammad Zahir-ud-Din Babur, who laid the foundation of Moghul dynasty in India after defeating the last sultan of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodi, in 1526. The Moghul dynasty ruled India for a period of three hundred and thirty-six years until their empire was usurped by the British East India Company.
