ABSTRACT
The introduction covers the key themes explored throughout the book, identifying the impetus behind the development of orchestra and opera community engagement and education programmes. The introduction discusses the challenges facing the classical music industry, and how these programmes aim to address these challenges by increasing the social relevance and integration of key classical music organisations. The literature review discusses salient works exploring the development phase and current activity, as well as exploring key works in the areas of creative music education, curriculum design, and tertiary music education.
