ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 focuses on effective and innovative models of delivery of music education programmes through a system of partnership and collaboration. This system typically involves several contributing partners, including schools, local councils, professional musicians, performance venues, and instrumental music teaching services. The UK Music Hub system is a pioneer in terms of formalising this system and streamlining the logistical operations. This chapter looks in depth at the hub system, from its inception through to current practice today. The chapter also looks at particular hubs that are succeeding in delivering excellent music education opportunities to their communities. We question why they are succeeding, as well as considering the challenges and difficulties encountered by hubs. Chapter 3 also looks at the Benedetti Foundation, new schools being established by symphony orchestras, and at the American Teaching Artist system.
