ABSTRACT

This chapter is both a conclusion and a reflection on Delany’s Dhalgren, which in many ways epitomises, but also acts as inspiration for the approach (10 duties of speculative fiction) taken in this book. As inspiration for the first book examined here (Neuromancer), the inclusion of Dhalgren in this conclusion in some ways acts like an Ourobouros figure, placing the head close to the tail to bring the argument full circle. What that argument is, or has been, as it has developed here, is explored by way of the examination of Dhalgren as a kind of metonymical handbook for exploring speculative fiction as a whole.
