ABSTRACT
This brief concluding chapter complements and complicates the conclusions of the preceding chapter about early modern readers’ apparent lack of sensitivity to printed plays’ theatrical resonances, by arguing that these resonances may have been foregrounded in an unarchived mode of oral reading that co-existed alongside other documented modes of readerly engagement. The book’s key interventions are summarised and directions for further research suggested.
