ABSTRACT

The chapter presents the results of the own research concerning objectives established by family businesses and creates the foundation for grouping these enterprises. The beginning of the chapter discusses the research methodology while depicting the research process scheme, the scope and duration of the research and the methods of analysis used. It also presents the cross-sectional characteristics of the research sample. Subsequently, the chapter depicts selected issues concerning the operation of family businesses and management of these entities in terms of establishing and achieving objectives. The last section presents the authors’ two models for classifying family businesses – it depicts the process of their creation and the method of classifying family businesses into the relevant category. The first model is based on the key categories of objectives for family businesses, whereas the basis of the second model is the degree of achievement of selected objectives.
