ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the ontological relationship between the concepts of the Holy and the sacred as articulated in the Qur'ān, arguing that al-Quddūs, the Holy, is represented as the transcendent, while the sacred is an orientation towards the Holy. It then discusses the ambiguities surrounding the Holy and the sacred in the tawḥidic discourses.
