ABSTRACT

Agile portfolio management is a powerful tool when the amount of development and teams reaches a certain level. Sometimes the terms large-scale, scaled, two or more teams, scaling agile and suchlike are used to describe the delivery model. The situation is commonly where the organization has a fair number of teams conducting software development which needs to be focused and coordinated. Agile portfolio management may sound like a beautiful rose, but it is not without thorns. Agile portfolio management is not a replacement for project portfolio management. The value and principle of “Individuals and interactions over processes and tools” has a strong emphasis on communication, management, and commitment. Project management and communication have, for many years, been intricately connected as organizations have witnessed how projects have failed due to lack of communication, while other projects with good communication practices have performed far better than average.
