ABSTRACT
Chapter 5 is a broad survey of the Earth’s past climates and discusses how scientists have figured out climate patterns from thousands and even millions of years ago. Scientists dredge sediment cores from the bottom of the ocean and drill ice cores from the Arctic and Antarctic, which contain, in microscopic amounts, ash, dust, and bubbles of long-trapped gas.
