ABSTRACT

Climate change in the past influenced human evolution on the African savannah. Humanity’s ancestors branched off from the ancestors of other primates between 6 and 8 million years ago. Chapter 6 looks at the way humanity’s ancestor species evolved the ability to walk upright and to use their hands to manipulate and create tools and exhibited increasingly complex mental and social behavior. All of these evolutionary changes were probably stimulated by climate change and its impact on environments.
