ABSTRACT

In this chapter it will be shown that the detectives interviewed considered modern-day homicide investigations to be, put rather simply, better than they were in the past. This was largely deemed to be a consequence of the significant advances in science and technology that have taken place over the years. However, there were other areas of change that were considered to have had a positive impact on homicide investigation in England and Wales, with shifts in culture and changes to the interview process also identified and discussed. Crucially, this chapter also reveals how with new opportunities new challenges have emerged, including those faced when trying to keep up with rapidly evolving science and technology.
