ABSTRACT

A political map of the world needs to be redrawn after every transformation on the ground. For instance, the disintegration of the Soviet Union led to a busy time for the map-making industry producing a complete updating of the global map. The energy pipelines like any other movement create contours and make connections. According to the US Energy Information Administration, the region contains an insignificant amount of 2.5 billion barrels of combined proven reserves of oil. China is estimated to have larger deposits of shale than the USA, but it faces insurmountable obstacles: technological deficit, population density, and availability of land and water. The current oil producers will be losers; at least till the time the shale lasts. Global warming and climate change will have an increasing impact on oil extraction and transport. The energy companies were equally reluctant to pursue strategy rather than profit in the pipeline choices.
