ABSTRACT

Chapter 7: Model covers the authors’ research that resulted in the toxic leadership model. The chapter describes how the authors conceived the research, the research protocols and method, the findings, a discussion, and the resultant typology. The authors developed a six-type model of toxic leaders that included aberrant behavior, abuse of power, egocentrism, emotional dysregulation, ineffective leadership, and moral corruption. The authors also describe their closed and open systems models of toxic leadership. Chapter 7 concludes with a discussion of the implications of the research, including suggestions for followers to cope with toxic leaders and for leaders to diagnose the existence of toxic leadership within their organizations.
