ABSTRACT

After performing in working-class theatre in London, Geoff Hoyle entered the clown and mime scene, studying with Etienne Decroux in Paris in the early ‘70s. He went on to develop his work in mime, clown, and physical comedy as a founding member of the Pickle Family Circus in San Francisco, alongside Bill Irwin and Larry Pisoni. He later performed in Cirque du Soleil's Nouvelle Experience and on Broadway in The Lion King. His show Geezer is a physical comedy about what it's like to grow old. Geoff refuses to call himself a clown, thinking of himself as a physical actor who uses clown – sometimes – in his work.
