ABSTRACT

Ezra and David reflect on their discoveries, prompted by questions posed by award-winning clown performer and teacher Phil Burgers, otherwise known as Dr Brown. In a wide-ranging conversation the editors discuss outcomes and findings in each of their four areas of inquiry – origins, inspirations, techniques, and philosophies – seeking to examine the interviews in their entirety, tracing the details of a clown mosaic that spreads across continents and centuries, illuminating the nature of the art form and the relationship between this iconic figure and the creative impulse.
