ABSTRACT

When a person experiences healthy jealousy as a healthy alternative to unhealthy jealousy, they make the same inferences as they do when they experience unhealthy jealousy. Holding healthy jealousy-based attitudes leads the person to reflect on the threat that exists to their relationship and to see it realistically based on the facts of the matter. Holding healthy jealousy-based attitudes leads the person to reflect on conversations between their partner and another person who could be a love rival and to see them realistically rather than misconstruing them. Holding healthy jealousy-based attitudes leads the person to rethink the fact that their partner finds other people attractive and to see it as unfortunate but not necessarily a threat to their relationship. The flexible and non-extreme attitudes that underpin healthy jealousy lead the person to wait for their partner to express love for the person of their own accord without seeking reassurance on this score.
