ABSTRACT

Sammy and Hubert are the two residents I remember as being nearest to actual unemployability. Hubert had seven jobs in his first nine weeks, two of which lasted only 90 minutes. I wrote to his child-care officer, pointing out that the hostel was intended for boys who, with support, could be expected to hold down a job, and that if Hubert continued like this we should have to consider whether Reynolds House was the right place for him. But it transpired that he was only finding his feet, which some boys found much more difficult than others.
